About the Kenek Edge sensor and cable

The Kenek Edge sensor plugs into either the audio port of the Apple device (iPod Touch, iPad or iPhone) or into a Apple Lightning Port Adaptor (LPA) plugged into the Lightning port.  The sensor's cable is 50 cm long and has a special double-shielding designed to minimize electrical interference.  The connector is 3.5mm TRRS (tip-ring-ring-sleeve) to support left and right audio channels plus a microphone channel.

The sensor may be used with any Apple mobile device that supports iOS 9 or later, including those without an audio port.  See this article about using the Apple Lightning Port Adaptor.

Using Audio Extender Cables

For some customers, the cable on the Kenek Edge sensor is too short for their purposes.  Some have tried using audio extension cables (female 3.5 mm TRRS connector on one end, and a male TRRS connector on the other).  Many 3rd party cable will not work properly.

NOTE:  Many commercially available cable extenders do not have TRRS (Tip/Ring/Ring/Sleeve) connectors (only TRS with a single Ring, missing the extra microphone line) or they are not properly wired - they work with headphones for listening to audio but do not work with phone headsets for making or accepting calls.

It is important to only use audio extension cables with a TRRS connector and all three lines properly configured.  If they work with an Apple headset to make or accept a phone call, then they will work the Kenek Edge sensor.

Make sure that any manufacturer refers explicitly to supporting the mic channel - or they say that it will allow you to answer phone calls and/or use the headset controls to answer calls and change volume.

NOTE:  Even if correctly constructed, use of an audio extension cable is not advisable.  While Kenek Edge may operate correctly, users run the risk of degrading the sensor signal or introducing electromagnetic interference (particularly if the cable is not properly shielded).  LionsGate Technologies cannot be liable for unsupported use of Kenek Edge.

NOTE: A proper audio extension cable should be able to support using a headset controller to answer phones calls and to adjust volume.
