About the Lightning Port Adaptor
The Kenek Edge sensor plugs into either the audio port of the Apple device (iPod Touch, iPad or iPhone) or into a Apple Lightning Port Adaptor (LPA) plugged into the Lightning port. The Lightning Port Adaptor allows headphones, headsets, external amplifiers, and the Kenek Edge sensor to use the Lightning port for audio purposes.
NOTE: The Apple LPA is NOT INCLUDED with Kenek Edge. It is included with iPhone 7/7+, 8/8+ and X - however Apple no longer provides it with Xr, Xs or Xmax models. It can also be purchased from the Apple store.
Using the Lightning Port Adaptor (LPA) with Kenek Edge
Apple provides an audio Lightning Port Adaptor with the iPhone 7 and later. Extra LPAs can be purchased from the Apple Store inexpensively. They call it "Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter"
To use the Lightning Port Adaptor, simply plug the Kenek Edge sensor into the LPA and plug the LPA into the Lightning Port of the Apple Device. This can be used on any Apple Device running iOS 10 or later with a Lightning Port, even if it also has an audio port.
Start the Kenek Edge app and select "Oximeter" from the menu as usual. If the app does not detect the sensor, unplug the LPA from the Apple device and plug it back in again.
Requirements
- Apple Lightning Port Adaptor for audio peripherals
- Kenek Edge is NOT guaranteed to work with other Lightning adaptors
- Operates on iOS 10 or later
- Compatible Apple devices
- iPhone 5, 5C, 5S, 6/6+, 6S/6S+, 7/7+, 8/8+, X/X+
- iPad 3, 4, Air 1 and 2, Mini 2, 3 and 4, Pro
- iPod Touch 6 (not on 5)
NOTE: Lightning Port adaptors made by 3rd parties (other than Apple) will NOT work with the Kenek Edge sensor. This includes Lightning port splitters that have an audio port - they allow you to listen to music but not make calls or adjust volume.
NOTE: A proper adaptor should be able to support using a headset controller to answer phones calls and to adjust volume.
